An offer is the start of a second process. For the UK, the goal is a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS): a unique reference number your university issues when it is satisfied you will study with them. You need it to apply for a Student visa.
Conditional and unconditional offers
A conditional offer lists things you still have to do: usually final grades, an English test score or documents. An unconditional offer means the academic side is done. Write every condition down with its due date — RightUni keeps them on each application with a done tick.
The deposit
Most UK universities ask international students to pay a tuition deposit before they issue a CAS. Check the amount, the deadline, and the refund policy if your visa is refused. Pay only through the university’s official payment page.
Pre-CAS checks and credibility interviews
Universities are responsible for checking that their sponsored students are genuine. Many send a pre-CAS questionnaire or hold a short interview on video. Expect questions about why you chose the course and university, how it fits your plans, your finances and where you will live. Answer in your own words; there are no trick questions.
Getting and checking your CAS
- Your CAS shows your personal details, course, dates, fees and any amount already paid.
- Check every detail against your passport and offer. Ask for a correction before you apply for your visa — errors cause delays.
- A CAS can be used for one visa application, and only within six months of being issued.
What comes next
Once you have your CAS, you can apply for your Student visa, pay the visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge, and book your TB test if you need one. RightUni’s UK steps list each of these with a link to the official GOV.UK page.
