Studying in the United Kingdom
The UK’s shorter courses keep total costs down: most bachelor’s degrees take three years (four in Scotland) and most taught master’s degrees one year. Universities are spread across the country, and many of the best-value options are outside London.

Find students going where you’re goingHow applications work
Undergraduate applications go through UCAS: one form, up to five choices. Postgraduate applications go directly to each university, usually with no limit. International students can apply to UCAS until 30 June for September entry.

- Foundation and pre-master’s routes if you don’t meet direct entry
Getting your visa
Once you accept an offer and meet its conditions, your university issues a CAS. You can apply for your Student visa up to 6 months before your course starts, and a decision usually takes about 3 weeks from outside the UK. Students from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan need a TB test from an approved clinic.
Money
You must show your unpaid first-year tuition plus living costs, held for 28 consecutive days. London is noticeably more expensive than the rest of the UK, so budget beyond the visa minimum.
Working and staying on
Degree students at a university can usually work 20 hours a week in term and full time in vacations. After your degree, the Graduate route lets you work at any level without a sponsor.
